This chain riveting tool resembles a clamp. The clamping screw holds the tool in place. It is hollow and another screw is screwed into it, which pushes out a pin and knocks out the pin of the main link of the old chain. The internal screw on the device I received was so poorly machined that the threads didn't engage enough to withstand the pressure when I tried to push the pin out. I was able to knock the chain link bolt out of the parts basket with a bolt. Then when the new main tab was pressed against the pins, the small pressure plate broke. The design is good but the quality is terrible. The instrument has been returned and Revain has processed the refund.
