Review on 🔥 Durable Metal Case with Effective Thermal Adhesive for Raspberry Pi 4 Model B: Stay Cool and Protected by Paul Philippe

It works, but it's not perfect.

Bought this passive cooling case for a Raspberry Pi 4 that notoriously throttles under heavy loads. Prior to this purchase I had already seen several reviews of the FLIRC case for the RP4. It looks nice and satisfying and passively cools the RP4. But I've also heard that FLIRC's closed case involves WiFi signals; so i didn't buy it. I like the geeky look of this case; and some anecdotal user comments on the previous version indicate that it doesn't significantly affect the WIFI. So I decided to give it a try. First, it cools my RP4 well. I ran a 1 hour cpuburn-a7 stress test and a 1 hour standby test. the results are included in the table. This clearly shows that the maximum CPU temperature of 67 C was well below the 80 C threshold for the thermal throttle. Some user feedback on the FLIRC case shows that the maximum CPU temperature reached 64°C after just 20 minutes of stress testing; so this one works just as well. In idle mode, some FLIRC tests show a CPU temperature of 38 °C, but no time frame is given. If it was only 20 minutes, this case works the same way. My idle test is much longer and shows the CPU reaching around 43C in 20 minutes; and it is still slowly increasing and seems to stabilize after 80 minutes at 48°C. In addition, WIFI still works perfectly; I can get download speeds of around 1.8MB/s (I haven't tested download speeds without a comparison case). As far as cooling goes, I'm very happy with this case. Secondly, the reason for the 4 stars is that the workmanship is not perfect. There are 3 pins in the top cover that need to be in contact with the 3 hot chips to cool them down. When installed, there is a distance of <1 mm between the knobs and their chips; this is the place for thermal pads, totally understandable. The problem, however, is that the cleats don't completely cover their chips. The CPU bolt covers the CPU well, but the DDR4 memory bolt is smaller than the memory chip; The USB hairpin only covers half of the USB chip. I don't know if there is any long-term effect on the chips if only half of their surface is cooled.
