When I took it out of the bag, there was a faint chemical smell. I put it under a ceiling fan for a while and the smell was gone. I took it to my mom (her cat) and he inspected it as usual by walking around it. I put some catnip in it to lure him in. He entered, made two circles and lay down in them. My total time was 15 minutes. Surprisingly, it took him months to get comfortable in the bed my mother bought. This bed is like an angle, so I'm sure he feels more secure in it than in an open bed. I was concerned because her cat is 13 pounds and would not fit in the previous smaller bed. When he lay down, about a quarter of the bed was empty. It was a pleasant surprise. It is very soft and looks warm on him. I strongly recommend getting one.
