I bought this cable although the cable that came with the radar detector (Whistler Pro78) was still fully functional. The reason for this is that I hated having to reach up to change modes and/or mute/unmute the radar detector when driving white (depending on what car you have and where the radar detector is installed , this may take a long time). Also, I drive a manual transmission car, so I'd rather keep my hand next to the shifter than reach up. Not. I prefer this as it's easier for me to thread and hide the wire. The cable does what it should, you can program the function of the button (via the menu on the radar detector). It's currently programmed for: Short Press: Mute/Unmute Radar - I like this feature because I don't want to hear an alert all the time when driving past a radar source that I see (like a state cop on the freeway). Long press: change mode (city, highway, etc.) I've had this Intellicord for over a year now and have had no problems with it. Highly recommended for anyone with a compatible Wistler radar detector.
