Nobody (at least as far as I know) likes to spend money unnecessarily. When I bought our fence, it came with "cheap" wire. When I needed more, I bought the next "level" thinking it would make my life easier and last longer (wire. Not my life, unfortunately!). The problem is. Even though it was better, the average wire quality still gave me heartache. It stretched easily, broke relatively easily, and a few times a year I had to spend hours monitoring 5 acres of my above-ground pet fence to figure out what the problem was. After spending 4 hours unsuccessfully trying to find the fault last time, I decided to buy this heavy duty 14 gauge cable and swap out the entire front end. However, I can tell you that although the wire required a bit more effort to install due to its weight and stiffness, I'm confident I won't have any more problems with visible or hidden breaks. This wire is strong and durable and I wish I had used it to begin with to avoid the extra hassle, buying replacement wires and headaches. When installing an electronic pet barrier, invest in the best wire you can - you won't regret it. The attached photo shows the heavy duty black wire versus the more fragile yellow coated wire.
