I've had it for almost 2 months now. I can say I checked it. We live near Charleston, SC, I have a 21' x 20' garage where I store a 19.5' boat for a week dammit! I've been using this dehumidifier non-stop since I got it. Yes, you will need to drain it frequently unless you have a permanent drain hose attached. But at night, with a wet boat (all hatches open), with life jackets, a pipe, an anchor and mooring lines, it will reduce the humidity from 70-80% to almost 50%, and if you let it work with If the garage door for is closed for a few days, it pulls up to 40-50%. I also use a 20 inch metal bladed fan to circulate the air in the garage. The garage is insulated on 3 sides by the house, the ceiling and 2 walls. The garage door is soft insulated (R8-10ish), one wall is not insulated but doesn't get much direct sunlight. I empty the tank first thing in the morning when the boat is fresh in, often full and red light mid day after work and before bed. I set it to normal settings and 40% humidity. I would say that this does not help the temperature in the garage. It's just that the humidifier works, it generates heat. But walking in the garage with a humidity of 45-50%, 80-85 degrees is much better than 70-80% humidity. In my opinion it is worth the price. After a few days my boat is 90% dry except for a few areas that can hold a small amount of standing water. Much better than a month before with no dehumidifier and no mold or mildew growth in the garage and this has been a problem in previous garages during a very wet Easter holiday in the UK. Even on the days we open and close the garage a few times, it catches up quickly and keeps the humidity down. Great purchase so far. Someday I will grow up and install an 8-12k BTU mini split outside the garage. Until then, I expect this humidifier to work great!
