At first I wasn't sure what the sole would be. When children first walk, they are encouraged to either not wear shoes or to wear shoes such as moccasins due to the very thin leather on the soles. The reason for this is that it helps children feel the ground better and ultimately figure out what their feet need to do to walk. Better balance etc but many shoes have hard soles and sometimes you want a shoe that can be used and walked on and that doesn't have holes in the sole. So I really think that's the best compromise. When my son steps on a small pebble or stone, his foot doesn't hurt, but the sole is flexible enough, he will definitely feel the ground and be able to walk properly. Although I ordered a size 6-12 months and my son is only a few days away from his first birthday, he was able to sew them easier than I had hoped. They fit him but run a bit big. However, they will customize it for a while. I would definitely buy more in the future and am happy with the purchase. However, they will customize it for a while.
