The material is very soft and light - shorts more than a top. It seems like it's perfect for hot weather, but I have no realistic expectation that the entire outfit will make it through the season in hand-friendly condition. I bought mine almost 5 year old because she used to lean towards plaid shorts, but the fit seems better for younger kids, maybe in diapers/pull up kids. The shorts are mid-thigh, have no pockets, and don't sit very stylishly on my little guy, but they're easy to get on and off and bearable for this outfit (and look pretty fancy with a Milwaukee Brewer shirt from shirt). , To be honest)
