Unlike most security cameras which require a DVR, this USB camera plugs directly into your computer and the choice is yours. how to save/stream the video. It's like a regular webcam, but it has all the features of a security camera, like IR, night vision, wide angle, weather protection, etc. Actually, it works well for a webcam too, but it doesn't have a microphone. The build quality is very good, it has a 20 inch USB cable, there is no zoom or focus. And the field of view is about 100º, which is a bit narrower than a lot of 170º CCTV cameras, but it's great for me because I'm looking at things that are far away, not closer. The picture is very clear and unfortunately the video doesn't capture it properly as I took it with my phone. But it's as clear as any night vision camera I've seen. The auto iris also works very well, so adjust the exposure and the picture always looks good. Since I needed a camera that I could use without a DVR, it was the perfect solution for me. You just plug it into your computer and it will automatically install itself as a universal video device, after which it can be used by any software on your computer that supports a webcam. There is tons of free software on the internet. I use Media Player Classic Home Cinema, but you can download literally hundreds of free options with various recording, recording and time-lapse features. It doesn't come with any software, which I really prefer. I'd rather have a generic video source like this and then choose the software that best suits my needs. Actually I watch a lot of wildlife and I already have a computer in my truck, so I use this camera (with separate CMVision-IR200-198 (850nm) IR LED night light for interior and exterior lighting and it's installed on my roof, so i can park around the basketball court and have full night vision to keep an eye on the wildlife and with the headlight i can see about 120ft now i can actually drive in total darkness too but since the image on the screen only 2D is I am I'm a little scared of driving faster than 10mph But if there's a zombie apocalypse I'll probably drive faster Like most animals I don't believe zombies see 850nm infrared can, so I'm fine.
