NICE SIZAL HUMAN WALL BOARD

Well made pine and sisal scratching post, very easy to install. We've found that our cats prefer either cardboard blocks or sisal to old carpet scratching posts. I opened the box and put the items on the carpet to take a picture. Before I got the camera, one of our cats came by and put her on a sisal board on the floor - a sisal fan I think. Assembly was very simple - use a frame to mark the holes, drill two holes for the plastic dowels (the holes should be slightly smaller than the dowels), hammer the dowels into the holes, drive in the screws and hide the screw with dowel holes. Zip zing pliers - done. Now we train the cat. They've been trained not to scratch trim around the house, so we had a bit of a problem - one cat (younger and more inquisitive) is a lot smarter than the other, so we started with that. We rubbed some catnip on the sisal and sprinkled some on the floor below. Less than a minute later, the smarter cat checked the catnip on the carpet. After a while, I raised the cat's front paws and mimicked scratching my paws. The cat immediately stretched out its claws and heard scratching and plus feelings. A few hours later, the smarter cat was enjoying the scratching post. The not-so-smart cat (much older and set up in her own way) later tested the catnip, sniffed the scratching post and left - she prefers the cardboard scratching post. She doesn't respond well to being forced into anything (believes it's some form of punishment) so we'll see. Also, she never scratches anything but her cardboard pad, so she's not the cause of our furniture scratching problem. Nice touch: there is an extra screw, anchor and wall plug in the package. Sometimes the plastic anchor will bend as you drive it in if the hole isn't big enough or there's a wood frame behind the drywall. The wooden plug is so small that it would be difficult to find if dropped. I haven't had any of these issues, but it's nice to know there are replacement parts in the box.
