I bought this 150w inverter and its wired brother also 150w mainly for car use, passengers who need to charge devices/entertainment etc. But it's also useful for emergency cell phone charging via USB and emergency fluorescent (CFL) lighting from a 110 volt outlet when connected to my portable jump starter with a 12V DC outlet. In the event of a brief power outage at home, I can quickly turn on at least one room-filling lamp (60W equivalent) when the power goes out and buy myself time to consider next steps if the outage could last several days; , both tested ok, in the car and with a jump starter as an emergency source. The phones were charged and the attached light was working (just a regular table lamp with a 60 watt equivalent CFL that draws basically 8-10 watts), in the car and with a Jumpstarter DC outlet. Contrary to the other review, the CFL bulb (the kind you can get at any major store now, where the bulbs are fading) performed the same as regular wall outlets on both inverters, as far as I could tell. . I didn't try. either an inverter with noise sensitive equipment like audio equipment or 110 wall mounted transformers for whatever. I might be wondering about this, except most things that need a wall wart are can use either 12vdc or 5vdc from USB. Staying in the 12V DC car socket is very good. The end of the inverter is heavier and will knock everything out of the socket over time/blows. Cigarette lighter plug, need better springs on the side to stop this. The wired version remains better despite having the same springs, since the entire weight of the inverter part is not borne by the springs. I'll probably keep both, but grab another/better 12VDC connector somewhere and mount it to the one-piece inverter like a little extension cord. I hope I don't destroy it in the process. But 2 pieces (plug and inverter head) is the best choice and probably easier to install in most car sockets esp if they are recessed in the console or something. The disadvantage is, that the extra wire can be messy I think in a car. Jim, but grab another/better 12VDC plug somewhere and plug it into the one-piece inverter like a little extension cord. I hope I don't destroy it in the process. But 2 pieces (plug and inverter head) is the best choice and probably easier to install in most car sockets esp if they are recessed in the console or something.
