Good hard drives with desktop performance

I always recommend WD Black drives for desktop replacements. I have replaced many laptop hard drives in laptops for friends and clients. Due to the heat generated in laptops, it's not uncommon for drives to only last 2 or 3 years. Out of the last 10 hard drives I've replaced, none were Western Digital. Another note: Manufacturers use the cheapest drives, which are also the slowest. If you want to keep your laptop and data longer than 2 years, install a WD Black drive. Transfer speeds are almost the same as a desktop hard drive or about twice the speed of your OEM drive in your laptop. I've never seen one of the WD Black drives fail in a laptop. I have a WD Black drive on my desktop that is almost 10 years old. Disk diagnostics show no bad sectors or errors. ADVICE. If your drive is slow and your system freezes, replace it before it fails and you lose your documents, pictures and all other data. If your system won't boot because the hard drive is unreadable or the hard drive fails, you still have the option to recover your files. I have an external dual SATA dock that I use for cloning client drives. When I receive a laptop with a drive that won't install or read, I put the drive in a static bag, then put it in a sealed plastic bag and put it in the freezer overnight. In all but two cases I was able to mount the drive and clone it from the freezer. The journey usually takes 1 to 2 hours after a good dose of freezing. Don't try to plug it back into your laptop to clone or copy files. The drive heats up too quickly and typically only lasts about 20 minutes in a laptop.
