Light flakes remind me of the light ivory snowflakes my mother used to use when she was alive. This is NOT a powder that will leave white marks on clothes if not rinsed thoroughly. These are light, tiny flakes that dissolve completely. I use it to wash and it comes out clean, very soft and odorless. No need to use fabric softener as it does everything! I have very sensitive skin and have had no problems with it, even with underwear. I have a top loading HE washing machine and I put a small flat spoon in first, let it dissolve for the first few minutes of filling, pause the wash cycle, add laundry and then see and feel the results. It would be great for kids and pets without using any chemicals. If you like a light, safe smell, add a little scented castile liquid soap (Bronners, Dr. Wood's, etc.) to the tumbler along with this powder and you'll get a light, safe smell. I always flush twice, but you can decide for yourself. You can use this for hand washing and probably any general cleaning after dissolving it in a bucket. In my opinion this is an excellent product and lasts a very long time as you only need a small scoop. Give it a try if you're on the fence!
