Review on Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens - Optimized for Canon EOS SLR Cameras by Krisha Codm ᠌

The best thing I've ever used, a great item for everyone!

I use it in conjunction with a Canon 50D for bird photography. Even in cloudy weather at 70-220 it gives a very clear picture with pleasant colors. I often photograph at 300mm, here it works "by mood". Sometimes it lathers quite strongly, and sometimes the picture is very clear, with an excellent rendering of the bird's feather (even in bad light!). Using the 50D rate of fire, I take a lot of shots, usually a few are sharp, even at f / 5.6 (although it's better to set it narrower). There are slight chromatic aberrations at the edges of the field of view. No geometric aberrations were found. Interestingly, thanks to the soft focus on the long end and beautiful bokeh, it makes unexpectedly beautiful portraits. The stabilizer is great - shot handheld at 300mm with a shutter speed of 1/80 - the quality is very good. Focuses incredibly fast, almost never misses. And the stabilizer hums very nicely :) The front lens rotates - this is a fact, but it doesn’t really bother me. A separate word about the overall design, no matter how they criticize it, in my opinion, it is quite good. The trunk lock is in the right place, just under the finger, the pipe itself lies comfortably in the hand. Of course, at the sight of a plastic trunk leaving, it becomes a little scary, yet it requires careful handling. Recently, the lens survived a black grouse photo hunt in a field in the rain - there is no dust yet, although it became clear during the photo hunt itself that it would be nice to switch to 400mm :) This is so, in the form of a very distant "monetary" perspective :) In general, it definitely works out its money if you take up to 20,000. The price of more serious TVs is very different . Great for beginners thanks to an excellent stabilizer. I generally recommend it to beginner wildlife lovers, just be careful with it for 300mm :)

Pros
  • An excellent stabilizer, focusing speed pleases, in the range of 70-220 it is very sharp, reproduces colors well, gives beautiful bokeh, especially in backlight. Well-thought-out design, the presence of a trunk lock.
Cons
  • I bought it for 15,000, I am very pleased, but now it is in some places and over 20 thousand fills up. Still, it's too expensive. In the 220-300 range, the picture is not always clear, especially in poor lighting conditions - this is the main drawback, there are no other serious ones.

I still recommend taking it, it's worth the money. I’ll just think - I can sew a dust cover on it from bologna .
