Review on 🏠 SAMSUNG SmartThings GP-U999SJVLEAA Remote Button, White: Simplify Home Automation with Enhanced Wireless Control by Ghostnote Azevedo

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Button: Very comfortable (with 2 year update)

(Below is my original review. See 2 year update below) To be clear, this review is for the Samsung SmartThings button and nothing else. I connected it to my Home Assistant Pi3 (hassio) a little over 2 months ago. Works perfectly, battery not changed yet. I even bought a second one. I don't know if it should also report battery readings and maybe my setup just doesn't read it, but it doesn't bother me at all (update: it works now). It turns on about every hour to check the temperature and send readings. The magnet on the back is pretty strong. Strong enough for me to have one hanging from a screw on a light switch panel. Note for Home Assistant or hass.io users only (ignore this, it's deprecated, see update): when the button is pressed for the first time, it toggles to on and not back. A quick google search for the device name (samjin_button) led me to a python script that changes the state back when pressed. Works great after you attach it. Edit: Update every two years! Now I have three of these buttons and they all work hard. No one has turned down magic smoke yet. I have to change the battery about every 2 months so I've updated my rating and only give it 4 stars. Replacing the battery is nonsense, but I think it would be easier if I set up an automation to tell me when the batteries are low. HA's integration with them is pretty good now. Since they don't have their own on/off state, use the zha_event to listen for the button press/hold/double press.

Pros
  • Sturdy build
Cons
  • Not the best
