This device has several features that I need and they come at a great price.1. AA batteries. I use rechargeable NiMH batteries with low self-discharge and AAA batteries run out too quickly.2. Variable brightness. Not only does this allow you to select maximum brightness, but the light turns on slowly when in use, which is easy on the eyes in the middle of the night.3. Selectable color. I used both blue and red lights in the military to get my night vision, so I needed those options with this light. Turns out I only use white and I'm glad that option was available!4. Waterproof. Many other devices do not withstand moisture! They're not waterproof, but will withstand the occasional splash.
