This solved the problem, maybe temporarily, but definitely for now.
Wheel on trailer. Very old, the hole where the valve stem is fixed is rusted. A replacement wheel could not be found. The hose was the only solution. Make sure the hole in the rim is smooth, wrap metal tape around the valve stem on the inner tube; you can leave. Can't say how long.
