Blown fuse then blown

Installed in 20 seconds, bike would not start, checked fuses and found it had blown. Replaced and then 10 seconds later cdi started hissing and then shorted out and exploded. He blew up the hull, releasing a cloud of plastic smoke. He immediately turned and ran away from me. The stock CDI was reinstalled and the bike ran normally again. Maybe I caught a bug, but I don't know.
