The fabric is very thin. They sewed a panel onto the upper front so it wasn't visible there, and they also sewed the panels directly onto the front of the shorts. Doesn't help much. I was hoping that my 10 year old would be able to use it alone when we go to water slides or amusement park water slides, but although it is translucent even dry and paneled she would need to wear a bathing suit underneath. so it almost defeats the purpose. It's sad because it's very cute and fits just right. (Bought 10/12, she usually wears 10). For the price I think it's ok.
