I ordered these along with the clear water balls for the sensory pool for my son's first birthday. It was a huge success and by far the most talked about activity at the party. These beads expanded very quickly, much faster than I expected. One thing I noticed was that the blue beads came in the packaging and branding pictured here, while the clear beads came in regular unbranded packaging. I don't know if it ended up being the same product or not. However, they were not of the same quality. Surprisingly, however, I found that nondescript beads were better. Both types of beads expanded quickly, both were beautiful, and both worked as advertised. However, the blue beads seemed to suffer after growing to full size and over time I noticed that the blue beads broke very easily and crumbled into tiny wet pieces with very little effort. Mind you, it was little kids playing with these beads and crushing them like it was nothing. It was disappointing. From the start I noticed that the transparent spheres felt more solid after fully expanding in water. The blue ones were much softer. I mixed them together in a large plastic tub and was able to close my eyes and tell what color they were with 100% accuracy. So the difference was clearly noticeable. I wasn't expecting the product to go bad after a few hours but it did. And now I know. However, the kids had a lot of fun! And all adults were instructed to keep the beads out of the tiny mouths, so the small pieces only required thorough washing of hands and hands afterwards. Otherwise it turned out to be still safe. In terms of quality I would be interested to know if all the colored beads work the same as the blue ones (perhaps the dyeing process affects the integrity of the bead?) or if I just received a bad batch. Or maybe the clear beads from other manufacturers were just better quality. It would help inform my future purchases of these beads. I plan to use them as a touch tool in the future because they were just too much fun! Even my elderly nephews and nieces took home jars filled with beads to play with! and blue beads side by side with different sizes of blue beads and the compression ratio that comes with blue. The broken pieces on my hand appeared after putting my hand in the bathtub just once. Only pieces of blue stuck to my hand. Note that when I crushed the blue and white beads with my finger, I used very little force - almost none, and broke the blue bead into pieces before I took the picture. I squeeze the white bead 5 times harder and it never breaks.
