11/28/2019: Initial review - like everyone else received late last week. Divide it in two. FireTV and audio. I'm not a music lover and I'm not tech savvy. I only know what I like and what not. I cut the cable over a year ago and I use and love a Roku+ joystick. It's simple, works exactly as it should and I can use a remote control for everything I normally do. I was still able to access some of the TV's features with Roku, but this completely replaces it. From an operating system standpoint, I enjoy this setup equally, if not better. My frustration is that memory is limited. Already at 50% and I've only downloaded the top 8 apps my family uses: YouTubeTV, Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, PlutoTV, YouTube, RevainMusic, and ESPN+. The rest was already loaded. You can uninstall all apps except "essentials", but at some point you'll have to manage that. It's not a "boundary" yet, but it doesn't bode well for something I plan to add in the future. There is no fandango here, which is disappointing. I viewed this device as a combination of Roku+ and Echo capabilities in one device. So far I haven't figured out how to use Alexa like you can with Echo. This is frustrating because I prefer to keep my Echo close to the TV so all my entertainment devices are together and for this device to replace the Echo it has to work the same way. and so far not. In fact, this aspect is becoming extremely annoying as I write this review. I work from home and like to listen to music in the background. With the Echo, I could tell him to pause the music from anywhere within range when I needed to make a call, or adjust the volume when I really liked something. That's cool! With the Nebula, I was again looking for a remote control to turn down the volume. You can use the mic to request, pause, resume music, but it doesn't change the volume (grrrr). Looking back at the description, yes Alexa is 'built in' but you have to use the remote to interact, while with an Echo or even an Insignia FireTV you can talk to Alexa through the device. I loved my Echo from the start and expected it to be the next evolution of the Echo. But it's not, and I don't like this machine at all. it does not conform to the Echo/Alexa standard. As for the sound, I'm very disappointed. Yes, it's not a high-end soundbar, Bose-level sound quality, etc., but I still wasn't expecting high-end. From the product side, I expected at least a more powerful soundbar. This is definitely NOT the case and looks more like an Echo Sound upgrade. I found the Echo to be quite comfortable and competent for its size and price, but the value on this device is questionable. Again, not an audiophile, but seems limited at the top and bottom. "DEEP BASS: Two built-in subwoofers and our exclusive BassUp technology work together to reproduce rich low frequencies." I didn't experience anything that I would describe as "intense". more mediocre than intense. I gave myself until the end of this weekend to decide whether to return or keep. I tend to return. I was happy with Echo for audio and Roku+ for visual entertainment. I was hoping that Nebula would combine the two and improve sound quality significantly, but I feel this falls short of their marketing gibberish and my expectations. So now I have to decide whether to keep this mediocre device or go for a soundbar that integrates as an extension of my TV and goes back to what wasn't broke. Echo for music, Roku+ for movies.
