Review on πŸ”§ MSI B450-A Pro Max ATX Motherboard for AMD Ryzen 2nd and 3rd Gen with M.2, USB 3.0, DDR4, D-Sub, DVI, HDMI, and Crossfire support by Hassim Rambli ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best I ever used, recommend it to everybody.

There are six SATA ports on the motherboard. They have been given numbers. Yet, this is how they are connected within the motherboard; those who are emotionally fragile should not have any trouble understanding this concept. As a consequence of this, it was discovered that the processor contains a controller that, when an M2 disk is being installed, prevents access to the SATA 5-6 ports. As a direct consequence of this, the controller must make use of PCI-ex processor lines in order to link SATA disks. As a consequence of this, I attached two primary working disks to that SATA port (in order to gain direct access to the processor), and I left three secondary disks connected to SATA ports 1-4. The devices in the device manager's list are now organized by connection like in the screenshot. Concurrently, SATA ports 1-2 are vertical slots, whilst SATA ports 3-6 are side ones. The SATA ports on the top side are the ones that have their own dedicated controller. When it comes to other motherboards equipped with B450, there is a notation that states ports are disabled only when a drive of the SATA type is connected to M2. However, if NVME is connected, the controller continues to function normally. I am unable to verify this possibility because I do not have access to an M2 drive.

Pros
  • Support for CPUs ranging from the older Zen+ series to the most recent Zen3 series. A successful overclocking of the RAM modules β€” using 48 GB and the original 3200–3600 MHz β€” required two pairs of modules made by different vendors. I have been in possession of the motherboard for a very long time; I purchased it well before the initial mining boom, and it continues to function quite well. A sufficient amount of cooling for the interior components. It is recommended that, when the temperature outside is high, the stop button on the video card's fans be turned off. This will reduce the temperature of the chipset from 50 to 47-48 degrees. The BIOS is still being updated, and although it was experiencing some slowness on 5600 with Windows 11, the problem was addressed relatively immediately.
Cons
  • There are some ambiguities in the documentation.
