Review on 🐶 Havahart Remote Training System by Ogunjemilusi Cheatham

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Better than basic training collar with limited range and short battery life

I am replacing and comparing this model with a higher quality Innotek training collar that is over 10 years old. Features: This collar contains almost all of innotek's features that I have used regularly and those that it doesn't have I have never started to use. Here are the features included: 1. 5 levels of stimulation with sound plus the option to use sound only. This is very important because if you use a sound with a stimulus to start with, the dog will usually associate the sound with negative feedback and will soon start reacting only to the sound, and eventually you won't need to use the shock function at all . innotek had 10 levels, but actually 5.2 are enough. Can be connected to two dog collars (second collar must be purchased separately). This is a good feature if you have two dogs and don't want to juggle two remote controls.3. 2 sets of collar probes - one for short haired dogs and longer probes for long haired dogs.4. Range 100 meters. That's the real difference between this collar and my last one. Innotek gives me a lot more range, but unless you're hiking or hunting with an off-leash dog, it might not matter to you.5. Waterproof: I haven't had a chance to expose it to water yet, but it looks pretty well built. The plastic isn't as thick and durable as Innotec's, but that's easy on the dog's neck, and unless you plan on roaming around in the rain and local rivers, that might not be an issue. Battery Saving: The collar will turn off and go to sleep mode if the dog doesn't move for a long time. It turns back on when it detects motion. This is a great feature, because the batteries last quite a while, but are by no means cheap to buy. a little without a collar, how to train with a regular collar and then how to enter and use a remote trainer. The guide explains how to prevent your dog from becoming "smart" while collared (knowing when to behave when the collar is on and reverting to the problematic behavior when it's off). I'm not so sure about the recommendation of leaving the collar on the dog for long periods of time - up to 12 hours - although it may need to be done in the beginning so the dog doesn't associate the collar with punishment. I typically only use the collar for a few hours when the target behavior is likely to occur, as the sensors need to be snug enough to work and the dog may not be comfortable wearing it for many hours. My biggest annoyance with the collar is the short battery life. The collar runs on only one battery (Innotek took two) and the battery seems to run out very quickly. There's nothing like being in the middle of a workout while Fido does bad things 50ft away and you scream with no incentive to cheer you up! Update November 2013: The quality of the collar leaves a lot to be desired. The nylon strap is already loose and coming off one of the tabs and we hardly ever use this collar! Compared to the Innotek collar we had, this one really doesn't compare. However, it costs a third of what our old collar cost 10 years ago, so I guess you get what you pay for.

Pros
  • Good thing
Cons
  • AC outlet required
