As I lifted a 1930's toilet, a lead jig dripped from the flange of an old brass cupboard, which was eventually destroyed upon removal. My goal was to reinstall the same bowl but I needed a new flange and this was an extended length replacing a piece of lead pipe. My sewer pipe is 4 inches in diameter. This assembly fits snugly into the pipe and is very easy to tilt and rotate to allow the rubber gasket to move up, expand around the flanged assembly, seat and seal against the pipe. This appears to have provided a good seal and created a solid base for the cabinet screws. Allowed me to correctly install and reinstall a vintage light fixture, easy and effective to use. Insert, tilting slightly to make the rubber seal fit snugly against the drain pipe, and twist to expand. The flange block itself tapers towards the end of the flange to a larger outside diameter, causing the gasket to expand to provide a tighter seal. Creates a nice stable setup.
