considering the sound quality and price I think Kef have created an amazing product. I had the first generation and it was great, but the LS 50 ii is even better. I would recommend a subwoofer as I love bass and any bookshelf speaker has limitations when it comes to bass, but I really like the sound quality of these speakers. My only gripe is that the wireless connection requires some patience, but overall it's quite remarkable to get this kind of sound and performance without spending a fortune on individual components. Most of the reviews I've read seem to agree, meaning the sound is subjective, but I highly recommend it!
