Review on Enhance Vehicle Performance with Monroe 40201 Specialty/Electronic Shock Absorber by Adam Martinez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Exact fit Note: Instructions error

Although expensive, here they are much cheaper than buying locally. They are an exact replacement for our 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan with the optional trailer pack. Since the new start, the left rear of our transporter always looks lower than the right when viewed from behind. The dealer replaced the spring under warranty but that didn't seem to help so I put up with it. After replacing the shock absorbers, the rear became flat. Please note that when replacing shock absorbers, the instructions provided are not correct. They will be shipped uncompressed and sealed. The instructions say to twist the top counter-clockwise to unlock and expand. Well it didn't work, so I called Monroe. The tech took a look and told me they come uncompressed and unlocked. Replacing them isn't that hard - jack up the rear, remove the tire, prop the rear axle (since it has leaf springs you want it to compress rather than hang loose). like it has springs) and then loosen the top and bottom screws. But if you live in the Rust Belt, be prepared for stubborn bolts. Mine was fine with the top one, but it took an impact wrench to remove the bottom one (socket 18 I think). Driving performance has improved significantly after replacing these and the front struts. Almost like new from the factory. The van has 215,000 miles on it and I've driven quite a bit and been towed quite a bit so a replacement is probably overdue.
