For hand knitters, blocking is an important technique for shaping knitwear by redistributing stitches without stretching or damaging the fibers. Ordinary water can be used for this purpose, but to preserve the softness of natural fibers and the natural lanolin oils contained in these fibers, washing wool is more effective. I purchased and used this product in conjunction with The Laundress Wool & Cashmere Shampoo. , Kedrovaya, 16 Stock oz - 32 Loads and Soakwash Liquid Laundry Detergent, 12 oz., Unscented. Here's my comparison of all three: 1. Eucalan Delicate Wash Wrapture - Jasmine This leave-in detergent contains a small amount of lanolin to naturally condition the fibers. I used this wash on a pair of Lopapis that I handknit from Icelandic Spiky Wool. I simply poured about 2 caps per gallon of cold water and left the sweater on overnight. I wrung it out and laid it flat to dry (on a blocking mat) the next day (reshape if necessary). This wash perfectly softened the wool and gave it a light jasmine scent. Class A+2. The Laundress New York Wool and Cashmere Shampoo - CedarThis is a highly concentrated wool and cashmere shampoo with lanolin and cedarwood extracts. I have also used this wash to hand knit Lopapeysas and a fisherman sweater for my husband. I did the same process using about 2 caps per gallon of cold water and left the sweater on overnight, but this shampoo (it's sudsy and soapy) needs a rinse. I rinsed with cold water until clear, then wrung it out and let it dry flat (on a blocking mat) the next day (shape if needed). I also recommend this shampoo for washing (cleaning) dirty or sweaty woolen items. It works great on ski wool and base layers in my husband's and kids' clothing. This product did a great job of softening the coat and giving it a lovely woody cedar scent that is perfect for the 'manly' man, yet subtle and feminine for the 'manly' man. girly girl! Class A+3. Soak for hand knitting - odorless. This gentle, no-rinse, phosphate-free formula is perfect for those with sensitive skin or sensitive noses! I use this for all of my handknit baby items (from socks and hats to sweaters and blankets) and knitwear that I give away. I think it's perfect for other delicate items like underwear. I follow the same method as other detergents (soak, spin and rinse, lay flat to dry). This wash was perfect for providing odorless softness. ! Class A+ grade. I can't comment on how any of these detergents/shampoos perform in machine washed items as I only hand wash them. over three for wool, cashmere or natural fibers!
