A friend of mine gave me the idea of getting a CAI because he said it gave him good performance and fuel economy. So I decided to try and buy it. If you know anything about how to increase the performance of your truck (let me relax a little, I learned most of this from the internet. And we all know how reliable it is. But it made logical sense to me) , you put it in a cat exhaust on the high flow muffler and then install the high flow air intake to get more air into the engine. The exhaust then allows all the extra air and vapor to be removed with less back pressure (which everyone seems to think you need at least some back pressure, but any back pressure is actually BAD). Either way, it just means you can burn more fuel more efficiently if you want to. This gives you extra power. So back to my truck. I installed a Cherrybomb Extreme Cat muffler on my truck (a 2000 Ford Ranger 4.0) and noticed a mpg difference of about 1mpg on my normal driving and about 4-5mpg on the freeway. Nothing changed after installing CAI. The only difference I can tell is that my truck roars when I press the pedal down. So it wasn't that important for my truck. However, it could do more for a V8 engine or a better engine. I personally love the K&N line and would recommend it to most.
