Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ VIZIO XWR100 High Definition Dual-Band Wireless Internet Router by Steven Harper

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Seems to be a good router

I had an old Linksys WRT54g that I always had. I decided it was time to buy a new router and found this while researching dual band routers. I have a Vizio Smart TV so I decided to try it for a very low price. I was expecting a headache setting it up, but was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have any issues. I went into the router and set up the 5 and 2.4 GHz networks for my SSIDs and passphrase. I connected my TV to the 5GHz network along with one of the laptops and a few others/phones on the 2.4GHz network. No problems so far in a few days of use. I also tried a USB connection with a hard drive and was happy to see that it works well too (make sure you're using FAT32 format and not NTFS to be able to read/write). Updated 9/9/13. Other reviews of this router turned out to be rubbish. It drops connections daily (although my laptop says it's connected but no internet) which requires turning the router off and on. Even my Vizio Smart TV, which this router is optimized for and is the only device on the 5GHz channel, loses internet connection. It cannot do the primary job of a router, which is assigning IP addresses and maintaining a routing table. Instead, it permanently assigns IP addresses that are already in use. I had to switch to static IP addresses on several of my laptops to avoid this. Do not buy this router. The good news is that if you get stuck with this router, there is a DD-WRT firmware that fixes the horrible issues with the Vizio firmware.
