Robust construction, good transfer rate and no interference.

As a recent iMac user, I'm all too familiar with the awkward nature of USB 3.0 hubs/devices and how they interfere with Bluetooth since newer iMacs use Bluetooth for the keyboard and mouse. The main thing I'm currently looking for in USB 3.0 hubs and enclosures is the ability to disconnect (and swap out if necessary) the USB cable. I bought this hub because it has a detachable cable and also because the cable that came with it looked pretty thick so I figured it might be well protected. Fortunately, that's how it turned out. I installed the hub on the iMac stand just below the Apple logo. Other hubs I tried would interfere with Bluetooth if they were anywhere near the front of the iMac. Despite the proximity, this device works great and does not cause any interference. The USB cable is very durable and well made. The only reason I'm not giving a star yet is because it seems like the board was built into the case haphazardly - all the ports are tilted slightly to the right (maybe 15 degrees). This is less of a functional than a cosmetic issue, so I still give this device 4 stars.

Pros
  • Rugged construction
Cons
  • No automatic controls
