After wearing support tubes for over a decade, I was pleased to discover that they were finally making fingerless tubes in shorter lengths. I'm 5 1/2 feet and the shorter stockings are still a bit long but not terrible. Before the shorter length, I always had rolled fabric under my knees, and if you've ever worn support stockings you know that right under the piping, unless they're layered, it's quite uncomfortable. I will confess that I often didn't wear my compression stockings as prescribed (I was diagnosed with venous failure in both legs) simply because they made my toes incredibly miserable. Now I work from home and wear my stockings all day because my toes don't hurt. I like their material better than the Jobst brand. They have little texture, feel more durable, and are less prone to snagging or tearing.
