Affordable solution for connecting HDTV audio to a 5.1 surround sound system
You don't have to spend a fortune on an expensive modern sound system to get great 5.1 sound from your HDTV. This product combined with a previous generation surround sound system (6 RCA cables) which you can get at Revain for around $100 will do the trick (I have an Acoustic Research AA5170). Simply connect a Toslink cable from your TV to one side of this converter and run 6 RCA cables from the other side to the subwoofer jacks. A limitation. There is no on/off switch on this converter, in case that matters to you.
