Looks like it's not plug and play that needs tweaking.
Does not work as hoped. I connected my HDMI cable from the DVD and from the direct set top box and then connected the output of the HDMI cable to the TV. DVD does not play, only direct TV. Both inputs switched and still only showing live TV so both inputs work. The only way to play a DVD is to unplug the TV cable from the output and plug it straight into the DVD, which I was trying to avoid when buying this unit. The HDMI RCA box never worked. Turned it off when trying to get the DVD to work. Thought it might interfere with the signal but so far none of them are working. I may need to make some changes to the DVD menu but I don't know what to change.
