Review on DROK Converter Mobile Battery Indicator by Jason Vigil

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works but needs improvement.

LED did not turn red at 3.6V as described during testing. The LED turned red when the battery voltage was about 2.6V, so there is a typo in the description. So far I've only gotten 63% battery on a single LG 18650 cell when charging a Samsung Galaxy S5. Not bad, but not great either. The charge was done with the phone off, so probably 50-60% of the charge with the phone on. If you want to power phones like the Samsung Galaxy S5, you need a 2A board. Version 1A just doesn't fit. The only thing I could charge with the 1A board was a Gopro battery and an old iPod mini. This board can be paralleled with 3.7V cells, but it doesn't seem to work properly as the LED turns red to indicate the battery is low. the voltage is low when it is not. It's important to note that when you're not using this board, the LED will continue to draw power from your batteries, so you'll need to install a switch. Drok should add an auto power on/off feature when devices are connected/disconnected and when the battery is low. Another important thing is that this board doesn't like to be connected to a 3V lithium battery charging board like JBtek. Charging will not work if you connect 18650 battery > JBTek charging board input > JBTek charging board output > Drok USB converter. Simply separate the two boards and connect each directly to the battery.

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
