This is the second rug I've bought. The first one broke, but that was my fault, not a manufacturing defect. I travel a lot and bought this pad for two reasons: 1) it's nice to have a mouse pad on the go if you spend a lot of time on your computer when travelling, 2) the main reason I bought it is commercial in nature and receipts . Like many others, I have to scan and document my business receipts. I'm often in a rush and don't have time when they're fresh, so I end up folding them up and putting them in my wallet. This mat makes it easy to put a check in to smooth it out and take a decent picture/scan with my phone. It's also handy for any other documents you need to scan as they stay flat and have a contrasting border for better cropping and identification. The only thing to watch out for is how you pack them. I wasn't careful with my first one and crumpled the top layer making it unsuitable for receipts. but that was my fault, not the manufacturers.
