Review on 🎣 Telescoping Freshwater EGO Fishermen's Replacement Tool by Adrian Allen

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Cannot handle salt water

Pros: Works great on the boat. The mesh slides out and snaps into place as intended. Guarantee 2 years. You can buy a very similar pen at Lowes in the color department. (Edit: The threads are different and don't match) Cons: The foam on the handle will rip or tear. It is not glued along the entire length of the handle. After a year in salt water the net still slips but the latch no longer locks it in place. I assume that all parts are not suitable for sea water. Small springs and rivets are rusting and now sticking open. I will update this review as the warranty process progresses. Right now I find it unusual to close at 4pm EST but will try calling again tomorrow. Update: 12/13/13: It was a few minutes later and I tried calling again. On Fridays they close at 12pm. Should be nice. It is difficult to find time during the working day to visit a fishing net company. Sometimes you have to wonder if it's worth the time and energy. Downgraded to 1 execution due to lack of warranty support in a reasonable time. At that price, they have to be open until at least 6pm EST for people to contact them. Update: 12/13/13: email sent to customer support. I explained the problem and asked for an improved handle that would not corrode. Update: 12/18/13: Got a new pen. This is a 2x stronger grip. I will definitely salt at the weekend. Time will tell if this pen will be more salt tolerant. Adaptation to 4 stars. Although their watch isn't very user friendly, they confirmed my request via email and sent a replacement grip quicker than expected. Update: 06/24/2016: The locking mechanism failed again and is still not corrosion-resistant. The visible part (small brass dot) gives the impression that the internal parts are corrosion resistant, but that's just to fool you. Look at the pen, first it rusts, then the spring in it, and then everything stops working. I also have a bit of corrosion on the black slider near each hole. It makes slipping off very difficult, even with machining (WD40, lithium grease, waterproof marine grease, liquid film, etc.). So I figured instead of the EGO floating handle ($40+) I'd just use painters from the Shur-Line hardware store. Pen ($20). They look exactly the same. Same pattern, same grip, same mechanism, it doesn't float and it works easier. Bring it home only to find that the EGO yarn pattern is just thick enough to stop other (standard) yarns from working. I ordered another pen. The latter served 3.5 years instead of 1 year. I also fish in more brackish waters which just means a slower death. Despite these setbacks, this remains the best network I've found.

Pros
  • FEATURES - Amazing grip, expandable from 29" to 60" Interchangeable modular head, multiple mesh types, up to 30 lbs. Fish
Cons
  • Crumpled Wrap
