It is programmable. The button on the Intellicord allows you to control two (2) functions in the radar parameter selection menu. However, you must set it up to perform the two (2) desired functions. For those complaining, it only does one thing or the other: RTFM - read the manual. See the Intellicord Ready section for instructions. I set mine to go into SILENT mode with one (1) short press and go into CITY MODE with one press. the music I play and with Intellicord I can easily decide if I should mute immediately or when as the cigarette lighter socket is right in front of the switch in my BMW M3 and a bit further down and to the left. My Camaro Z28. In any case, it's just a quick and easy movement to drown out the noise of the detector without much distraction from my changing hand. And I love that I can easily switch between CITY modes when entering and exiting freeways in my area. Both of these features with Intellicord are definitely better than having to reach to the top of the device and try to find the right buttons and key combinations! Which I always get wrong, unless I remove the device from the windshield mount so I can see the button labels and take my time. IMHO Intellicord is a "must have". The only criticism is that the cable is too short. To fix this I spliced and soldered part of the original cable. It doesn't look like much (I used black tape to cover the wires), but it's all stuffed into the headliner and the gap between the windshield and A-pillar so no one can see it anyway. However, it's a mystery to me why they provide you with such a short cable. I suspect they don't do field testing as that would show problems with such a short cable. I would like to make a comment on the Whistler radar/laser detectors themselves. I have two different models. BOTH have saved me from being stopped many times but in particular TWICE a motorcycle cop has hit me with a laser in an area where it's easy to drive over the limit (3 lanes, long and straight, restricted access, 35mph speed limit!) and in both cases the warning allowed me to brake to avoid a penalty. well over the set speed, and I didn't think I could slow down before his laser calculated it. But it's amazing the Whistler saved me - with instant recognition and warning that definitely got attention and I reacted immediately (you have to react immediately and brake aggressively if it's a laser - it only takes a second or two until these handheld lasers are done scanning your socket and calculating the speed. That time depends on the range and a few other factors. If it's about 100 yards away, you'll most likely get a second or two before it gets a reading. And If you brake hard, the laser speed calculation will take longer). There's no false laser alert, so I hit the brakes as soon as I hear one. Good reaction to the development. On top of these 2 occasions I got laser warnings from reflections from cars in front of me and even a few times behind me. I have had other detectors from other manufacturers over the years. Whistler with programmable power cord is the most efficient and convenient of all in my opinion.
