After a YouTube video tutorial in August I downloaded the 'new' drivers and installed everything quickly and easily. Since then I have digitized about 30 VHS tapes without any problems. I started with the included software, which is basic but works great. Later I started using OBS which is definitely more reliable. It took me some time to decide which one to buy as reviews are consistently poor from cheapest to most expensive. It seemed to have more successful users. I checked out the August YouTube video they posted in May detailing the installation. It was well made and included "new" software. So I figured I could ignore all the old reviews complaining about the software. In addition, most reported having had success with OBS. Both programs have pretty good video and sound, not much loss from the VHS tapes. However, I've encountered a problem that occurs every time I turn off my computer. When I open the software (August or OBS) it doesn't connect to the device. I have found that all I have to do is unplug the device and plug it back in. This usually helps, but sometimes it's necessary to close and reopen the program. Anyway, I've never managed to get it working in less than a minute. And once it's operational, it stays connected until the computer is turned off again. OBS has an odd behavior that another reviewer noticed. His review helped me get it right the first time. Sometimes when I open OBS I have sound but no picture. Sometimes video but no sound. Sometimes it's neither. Here's what I found to work: If there's no sound, unplug the device and plug it back in. If there is no video, go to "Video capture device/Properties", if enabled, uncheck "Use custom audio device". Check "Use custom audio device" again and make sure the device is listed correctly in the drop-down list below (AnalogAudio in (USB 2.0 Video Capture)). The video will appear once the checkbox is checked. Not sure why this works, but it works for me every time. People have mentioned issues on newer hardware. I'm using an old computer with USB 2.0 ports and haven't tried anything new.
