much better than the style with single LEDs around the collar. The battery/switch box has 2 LEDs pointing in opposite directions. The detachable flexible hard plastic tube is a large fiber optic cable that directs the light around the collar in a cool (or warm if you have red) light. The plastic tube can easily be cut with a wire cutter or a sharp blade. It's probably best to make the adjustment gradually, since you won't be able to go back if you make it too small. I suggest adjusting the collar so it barely slips over your head so you don't have to put it on and take it off every time, which will likely cause the seals to fail prematurely. Actually, I use it on a cat. My cat will cry and cry if she cannot go outside for half an hour at dusk, but I insist on accompanying her and this collar along with the bell allows me to keep an eye on her. It's not ideal for this application, because the circumference is so small that the hose's flex limit is reached. It would be nice to have a model with a thinner and lighter snorkel for small dogs and cats, but I'm happy with the quality and smart implementation at such a great price. Edit: A year later I use this collar almost every day. There is no rain. It still works great. I think I charged it maybe 4 times in that time. My cat willingly sticks her head in there now. Now I think I'll buy another one if for some reason they ever go unavailable. This is an excellent product.
