Exchange of defective goods

I bought this monitor because my old HP monitor couldn't match the screen colors on my new laptop etc. After some tweaking, this one came close enough that I could trust him to post images online. On the second day, I woke my system from sleep and the screen was about 50% dimmer, except for a circle of normal brightness to the right and below center. I ran a number of tests on computers, ports, cables, etc. and have been able to repeat the problem more than once. This only happened when waking up from hibernation. Turn off/on the monitor or restart the computer and everything was fine. But you shouldn't pay for it. I made a return request and wanted a replacement, but Amazon wouldn't let me. One of the few return rules is that you cannot exchange the same item. So I took a refund. When I tried to buy it again, the price suddenly dropped from $165 to $230. I wrote to support about this and they told me it's a different third party now and they "can't do anything about it". I was told to bring just the monitor (no cable or box) to Kolya's shop in town. They sent me a QR code to show them. A minor inconvenience (unlike home pickup) but it was quick and easy. They scanned the code on my phone and took it. Lesson learned from ordering from Amazon now, I've been ordering since 1999. As a result, I went to the Dell site. I found a monitor there that I liked. It was 1440 res so a bit more money (only about $300 - with free shipping) but it's good and no problems so far. It also arrived a few days ahead of Dell's estimate. Just a few words about Amazon's return policy.
