Bought to repel mosquitoes and it does a great job. While holding the button move it over the mosquito, it should easily go through the (for you) protective mesh and get a few pops and sparks. Then you shake them out of the trellis (or find out where they fell). Very clean and simple. Now the first problem is the safety net. As other reviewers have pointed out for many products like this, it is difficult to get large house flies to come into contact with the mains through them. Also, the voltage isn't enough to kill them instantly. However, if you make contact, it can stun them, making them easier prey for a piece of cloth or even a spray. I still find it easier and cleaner than chasing them with a fly swatter or spraying chemicals all over the kitchen. And of course mosquito-sized bugs, fruit flies? Pretty easy going through is easy. But for fruit flies, you can easily find a solution of apple cider in a glass. Otherwise I am very satisfied with this device.
