Review on πŸ’Ύ G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory F3-1600C9D-16GXM by Adam Roman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good quality, could be overclocked to 2000MHz

I've been using an ASRock Z68 Fatal1ty Gen3 Pro motherboard and an Intel 3770K (4.4GHz) processor for almost 10 years with no problems, and the RAM is Mushkin uses DDR3 Redline 2400MHz for the first 5 years. Then everything went wrong and Mushkin didn't have that Redline anymore, so they replaced that with a Blackline 2400MHz and were allowed to upgrade from 8GB (2x4GB) to 16GB (2x8GB) for free! Having used them for the last few years they still work great but after upgrading from Win 7 to 10 last year my system seems to need more RAM. I did another upgrade and just got to the RAM and decided to buy 2 sets of this G.Skill 16GB total 32GB. I wanted a 2133 or 2400MHz version but they are hard to find and more than twice the price of the 1600MHz version. After making sure that all 4 sticks were working fine at 1600Mhz, I increased the voltage from 1.50v to 1.60v, timings from 9th-9-9-24 to 9-10-10-28 and changed the speed from 1600 to 1800 (tested), then 1866 and then 2000 MHz. I test every time. I tried 2133 and 2400 and even increasing the voltage to 1.65 and timings 13-13-13-38 the system would not boot. So it looks like that 1600 RAM could go up to 2000 if your motherboard is overclockable. Tested with Prime 95 and Intel Burn Test and Mem86+ with no errors. Not sure if I'll keep it constant at 2000MHz or lower it to 1866 or 1800 since 2000 will (possibly) decrease RAM life. But overall I'm very happy with them, just hope they last that long in Mushkin.

  • Positive only
Cons
