I'm a fan of fountain pens. I was looking for a nice box as I recently received most of my dad's pen collection and needed a good place to store/display it. This box had good reviews so I gave it a try. It was expensive, but I didn't think it was bad for a real wooden box. So first, let me say that I was most disappointed with this crate: It's actually NOT a real tree. It looks nice but I am a ranger and I recognize real wood when I see it and being a ranger I really prefer real wood products and that is NOT real wood. It's not even a veneer (as some previous reviewers have claimed). You can easily spot it by looking at it with a hand lens, because real wood isn't made up of tiny dots of pigment. Still, I rate this box 4 stars because it's heavy and solid, with good hardware, and smooth opening and closing. Trays are good too. So overall it's a good box, just not the real wood I was hoping for. I went back and looked at the fine print on the listing and I should have known it wouldn't be real wood (so it's my fault) but I think their advert is a bit misleading and you see from other reviews be able. that other customers were also under the impression that it was either solid wood or veneer (which again, I assure you, is neither). So they should be more open in their reviews.
