Review on πŸš— Metra 99-8158G Single/Double DIN Installation Kit for Lexus ES300/ES330 (2002-2006) by David Dober

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Poor fit and finish

I used this to install a stereo in my 2002 Lexus ES300. If you're like me, you've been wondering if you even need it. My existing factory radio was a navigation radio, which is theoretically the same size as an aftermarket two din stereo, but is actually larger. The hole in the existing pad is too big. Yes, you need it, and if you're like me, you're lucky there's a company out there willing to do it, otherwise your aftermarket stereo will look like crap. I'd like to address some of the issues I've seen in other reviews, as well as my own observations.1. Lots of complaints about color matching. In my case it was almost perfect but I think it's safe to say this is a shitty shoot. Either your existing car is LIGHTER or darker than mine. I was very happy with the color matching. It's not perfect, but definitely better than good. 8/102. There was one reviewer who said he had to add felt to the INSIDE rectangle (the hole the stereo is peeking out through). maybe I need it too. I will first try to adjust the bracket a bit to get the radio FORWARD. It's hard to tell from the photo as I haven't done it yet. 9/103. Speaking of the bracket, it's a cheap plastic part that serves as a replacement for the factory steel bracket. The holes don't line up in three places, although the instructions say you have to screw it into the side of the radio in three places. The only benefit is that they are not attached to the bezel, so you can install the bezel last. 3/10 here.4. The REAL issue I had was the fit and finish from the OUTSIDE. There is a 1/4" CLEAR GAP between the end of this trim and the start of the next. That's bad. Bad enough I might try to find another solution and use the factory trim and widen the inner hole. Eventually this is where this thing loses most of its stars 1/10 here the picture should show where the existing finish (wood tone) does NOT match the new finish.
