I bought two of these - one because I knew I was leaving my old job and I needed to backup various scripts, programs and macros I had been developing over the past 4-5 years, and the other is for saving the install image of Windows 10. The one that contains the Win10 image works fine. The one I've used to back up scripts, macros and stuff I've worked on myself, although it blew the third time I plugged it in for home backups. It worked fine once I backed everything up. It was working fine again a few weeks later when my old workstation needed one of the macros I had developed - I plugged it into my colleague's laptop, gave him this macro and everything worked fine. Maybe a week later I realized I still had it plugged into my computer to back up everything in case I lost the USB stick. So I plugged it in and heard a faint "POP" sound. I didn't think about it much at first (I wasn't even sure if I had actually heard it), but after about a minute I noticed that my computer wasn't reading the USB drive. Thinking it might just be the slot behaving, I reached out to pull it out and try another slot. That sucker was HOT! Much hotter than any USB stick should be. It also smelled like burnt plastic. I didn't play with it the rest of the day and took it to work the next day to see if my work laptop would read it - no. I returned home, tried it on a friend's computer, nothing. Tried it on her laptop, nada. I hung on to it for a few more weeks, praying and hoping a pc will read this again so I can take with me everything I've created over the last 4 years. Never read again. I was devastated and still am at it - YEARS of notes, some of my proudest moments, many different iterations of time saving scripts, things I would come home from work and work night after night until I went to bed to do them to clarify and get to work even faster and more reliably - everything has flown away like tears in the rain. I finally threw it away a few weeks ago because I got tired of looking at it and remembering all the work I lost. I mean, most of it is still in my head. The lessons have been learned and they will stay with me. But I'll never get back what I've worked so hard for and it sucks. I've bought more PNY flash drives than I can count in the last 15 years, I've NEVER had a rejection like this. , and for something very important to me. After that I don't think I will buy it again, especially this model. I realize I was probably just the 1/10k that had a crash on the third use. Manufacturing processes aren't perfect, and eventually someone will get one that deviates just enough to break at the worst possible moment. Too bad it was me this time.
