No cushioning! Best in Lift Jacks

Unlike Toyota lift jacks they don't have any noticeable cushioning (yes, following the instructions I installed them closed with the shaft pointing downwards). Aside from the whole car shaking when the sunroof opens fully, the main problem with the lack of damping is that the bracket that these struts attach to is bolted to a very thin sheet of metal that flexes a lot (see Video). This can eventually lead to a crack in the one-piece sheet metal housing, which can be costly to repair. Visually, the Toyota pillars are larger in diameter and slightly longer (see photo). Shipping is less than half the price of new Toyota jacks at discount online retailers ($70 with shipping). Cons: Lack of cushioning means the entire car shakes when the sunroof opens, creating additional stresses that can eventually crack the solid sheet metal. : Spend an extra $40 on Toyota damper assemblies if you plan on driving the car long (part numbers 68950-0W542 and 68960-0W532 for my 2010 Prius). Otherwise, consider installing just one of these non-damping braces to prevent the sunroof from opening abruptly.

Cons
