The paper on the two surviving plates is light lavender grey; Watercolorists point out that your ground will not be pure white. The texture is thin, dry brush strokes in watercolor didn't show much graininess. Paper hardly ever warps, even when carelessly washed wet. When wet, it becomes flaky. All of this suggests that I'm not very good at watercolors. Acrylic applies remarkably well; just enough tooth to get a good swab. Base paper doesn't seem to wick moisture out of the ink as quickly as some other types of paper. Gesso doesn't cause much warping (I tested it with Liquitex Clear Gesso). Raw paper naturally pulls the oil out of the oil paint - after a few minutes I saw a thin "halo" around the bare brush stroke. Conte chalk goes well with paper. pastels. It seems to me, or is the color difficult to shade on this surface? Could it be that the same softness that allows paper to delaminate under watercolors also allows oil pastels to "fix" to surfaces and resist bleeding? Again, not exactly my medium. EDIT, later: Having worked more closely with this paper, I cannot recommend it for any purpose. It's too soft to be useful unless each sheet is primed with plaster of paris. It is useless for watercolor. I downgraded my rating to one star. I bought these colored sketch pads while traveling (SMALL SIZE which I wanted but surprised others). I like the paper's stiffness and durability, reasonable cost, and performance with acrylics and colored pencils. I like them for sketching; I would not use this paper for finished work.
