Review on πŸ’Ύ 1TB WD Green Desktop SATA 6.0 GB/s 3.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive Retail Kit by Aaron Moore

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Just got 2 raids with 6 of them. Let's see how long they can withstand my wrath.

At the moment my rating is 5 stars. I bought them instead of the red ones mainly because of the price. I have dealt with WD before and know that if they replace your drive under warranty because you just received a brand new drive, your warranty will be extended. If you ship your drive back after replacing it three times, you can request a better drive. I use that to my advantage. Yes, these discs only come with a 1 year warranty, while the blue and red come with a 3 year warranty and the black come with a 5 year warranty. But then again, the price doesn't bite. I now have 4 Greens in a ZFS Raid with 8.7TB of usable disk space with redundancy for my home server and 2 more disks on my workstation in Raid 1 backing up critical data weekly from the home server. This means that if a drive fails on my home server or workstation, the data is still safe. The drives themselves are pretty quiet even at 100% load thanks to the low RPM and the rubber mounts they rest on. on the. I can barely hear them snapping my ear next to the car. My server backs up every machine in the family weekly, totaling 24 devices, ranging from smartphones and iPhones to iMacs, laptops and workstations. During the backup I get a constant read-write speed of 115 MB/s on the server and 80 MB/s on the RAID1 backup on the workstation. Not only that, the discs also have a separate section reserved for movies, music, photos, etc., which are broadcast around the house on demand. The hard drives are rotated around the clock, with terabytes of data being written and erased weekly. I will update this review in due course.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Hard to remember but it was
