Oh my god it really works. I live in central Texas where we have the "old" mosquito species and the "new" Asian tiger. My house is half a mile from a large creek and we have LOTS of bloodsuckers because they live in the city. Pooh. I hid on review boards for at least a YEAR before gritting my teeth because these things are too expensive not to work. In the end I unfortunately chose the SkeeterVac over the Mosquito Magnet because the MM is made in America and I like to buy American. The vast majority seemed to agree that they were unreliable and short-lived. I just don't have the hand/stick gene, and repairing/winding up a propane machine every few weeks just isn't fun. So the SkeeterVac went in the trash. It comes in its own packaging, so if you live in an underprivileged part of town you might want to be home the day it arrives as any passer-by can see your sweet novelty. I went to Wally World Propane for mine , as it was reasonably priced and branded by Blue Rhino (vac maker) and I wasn't 100% sure you could use any brand (I told you I'm not comfortable or outdoors). Set up was easy even for a beginner like me and I had none of the issues listed by other reviewers (I heard and heard the "clap" sound without it spelling disaster, but I never heard it and it seems fine to be). catch all mosquitoes. I suspect some of the frustrated people haven't experimented with the placement (another reason I chose this brand is that you don't need an outlet, which is big in my house because there's only one outlet and she is by the back door). . .not where I want to put my mosquito-attracting object). I put it in the corner of the yard under a tree and next to a bush. Mosquitoes congregate in cool, shady places where there is no strong wind/draft. I haven't even moved it to see if it's better somewhere else because it works well there. Every time I check the trap there are between thirty and a hundred vampires. She does NOT catch Asian tigers because they are not sensitive to the baits SkeeterVac sells. I bought the MM Lurex-3 for Tiger and now I just need to figure out where to put it (they come in different sizes but a lot of reviewers said they would fit. Please let me know if you know where to put them !) Also, Tac-Trap ended up straight in the trash can. I don't feel like catching lizards/birds/bats/dog faces. I don't want to kill anything but bugs thanks and so many people have mentioned that they learned the hard way that small critters are attracted to yummy bugs that stick to glue. Only to get caught again. Dude, that must be bad karma. Mr. SkeeterWack, could you sell some kind of tac-trap wire cage that tiny mosquitoes can get in but carnivores can't? If your trap sales are lower than expected, this may be the reason. I would buy if such a device existed. But it turns out I didn't need Tac-Trap. Now I can sit on my patio. My dogs can sit on the deck without blood getting in the way. I used to not even be able to turn on the sprinkler without coming back with 3-7 bites. Sitting outside to read a book/have a drink/play with dogs? Unthinkable. Only for masochists. Now I know that if I run out of propane they will bite me again. Now I can get five bites a week and it's ALWAYS Asian tigers which this product isn't targeting anyway but I work with as mentioned before! I am doing my neighbors a great service. The leeches should jump on the propane because it eats through the tank REALLY fast if you run it all the time like you "should". fight and smear yourself with chemicals? That's great. I forgot the feeling of the sun on my face. I would buy it again. I wish I could buy a bigger one. Trust me, I update when it's only going to last a year because a perishable item shouldn't cost three to five hundred dollars. In the meantime, add me to the crowd of people willing to attest that when placed correctly, it does the job and the results are significant.
