Non-targeted RGB cooler good for your budget

Pros: - low price - looks good - RGB highlight - excellent performance for the price range - spare brackets for 2nd fan - 4 included - RGB pin extension cable to connect RGB fan and heatsink to motherboard. Also comes with a SATA powered line controller for RGB in case you don't have the right connectors. more on that below) - Installation is a bit tricky - the RGB extension cable is a bit loose and easy to unplug. Details: This cooler works great for its price range. My system went from idling at 38-39C to a constant 32C. I hope it will be lower with the addition of a second fan. However, it performed VERY well under load considering it's a $30 cooler. In a 30-minute stress test with Prime95, this cooler stayed cool at 63 C. The Wraith Stealth that came with my Ryzen 5 2600 processor jumped to 70C in about 10 minutes and 90C in 30 minutes before throttling. Again, I expect the GAMMAX to perform even better if you hook up a second fan. Now installing a cooler for my Cooler Master Q300L has become a nightmare. I moved the front I/O up and this cooler didn't fit due to the space required by the I/O board and cables so I had to move it back to the front of the case. Instructions are very lacking. On the back of the motherboard, these 4 screws need to be placed in the correct holes to match your CPU socket. Then insert these thumbscrews into the top of the motherboard to hold the backplane in place. The first one I ordered only had 3/4 of the required backplate screws and I didn't realize this until I removed my old cooler so please make sure all parts are included before attempting it to install. It comes with brackets for Intel and AMD sockets. The instructions aren't clear which are which, but the longer ones are for AMD. The worst thing was that the bracket screws didn't fit initially - that's because they are ADJUSTABLE, which the instructions DO NOT mention! I mean, the screws on the AMD bracket may not line up exactly with your AM4 socket until you just keep pulling the screws out. They REALLY should have put this in the instructions as it wasn't clear that the bolts would move further apart as the slots they go into are mostly covered by thin washers. That being said, knowing how to install it when my second one came (with all the parts!) made it 10 times easier. Especially since you don't have to hold the backplate to screw on the cooler, unlike the standard Wraith Stealth cooler. Now the top RGB accents are a bit more saturated than the fans appear to be. It's not very obvious (the difference isn't visible on camera) and not a problem for me. Since the fan and RGB accent are connected to the same RGB header, I don't think my motherboard's controls are causing the difference. Finally, the RGB extension cable is split so you can connect both the fan and the accent to your RGB headers. Unfortunately, it didn't really want to stay in my phone's jack, so I had to be very careful not to accidentally pull it out. Finally, my case (Cooler Master Q300l) claims to support 157mm tall coolers. This cooler is 156mm high. 2-3 mm fit me. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase for the great performance, price and RGB design. It has some quirks that I easily overlook due to the good performance and low price.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Poor kit
